Equipment

Ingredients

  • 300g/2 cups dry roasted almonds salted
  • 100g/3.5 oz dark chocolate chopped
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp This is an affiliate link.vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil

Instructions

  • Process almonds in a food processor until runny. This will take up to 10 minutes depending on how powerful your machine is.
  • Add chopped chocolate directly into the bowl of your food processor and process until smooth.
  • Taste the paste and determine how much honey you want to add. If your almonds are salted add 2-3 tbsp of honey to your taste and vanilla extract. Add a pinch of salt if your almonds are unsalted.
  • Continue processing to incorporate honey and vanilla into your paste, which will become clumpy at this point.
  • With the motor of the food processor is still running add melted coconut oil through the shoot. Process a minute or two longer until desired consistency.

Notes

  • This recipe will yield approximately 1 1/4 cup.
  • Using roasted almonds will give you the best result. They should be easy to buy, but you can also roast your own by placing on a This is an affiliate link.baking sheet and into an oven heated to 180C/350F. They will take 15-20 minutes and should be stirred once or twice.
  • This homemade Nutella will need a This is an affiliate link.food processor or This is an affiliate link.blender with a powerful motor, or it can burn out trying to bring everything together.
  • I prefer almonds so used them in my recipe, but roasted hazelnuts can be used instead and will make it taste a little more like authentic Nutella.
  • This is an affiliate link.Maple syrup can be used as a sweetener instead of honey.
  • As much as this spread looks like it is made using melted chocolate, it really just needs chunks of chocolate that are blended in a food processor. Dark chocolate, which is less sweet, gets used here. If you want to try it with milk chocolate, you may need to reduce or omit honey.
